What's New for 2023

The 2023 CR-V opens the sixth generation of the compact SUV. With that comes a host of improvements: the whole thing is bigger, features a brighter exterior, and the interior is more spacious with sleeker styling and luxury features. Honda says it has retuned the same old Turbo 4 to make it more responsive and efficient, while the continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) and four-stroke unit are said to be more advanced than the outgoing model

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Hidden behind the vertical grille of the CR-V is a sleek 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 190 horsepower. It pairs well with CVT and front or all wheel drive. This configuration is fashionable on EX and EX-L models. The simpler, sportier and sportier sedan includes a hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with a 204bhp electric car. While the Sport can be front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, the latter is the fashion for the Sport Touring. On our test track, the Sport Touring Hybrid hit 60 mph in 7.9 seconds. Every CR-V is equipped with Hill Descent Control, which allows the compact SUV to adjust its speed on steep or slippery slopes when driving at low speeds. Most models come with fixed 18-inch wheels while the sports car uses black wheels. The Sport Touring gets a 19-inch differential, which is also painted black. The hybrid model is designed to tow 1,000 pounds for the first time. While it doesn't have the driving feel we loved in the Mazda CX-50 and Volkswagen Tiguan, the all-new CR-V offers an easy ride and enough daring to ward off boredom

Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

Powertrain options for the CR-V include a 1.5-liter petrol engine with 190 horsepower. and a hybrid unit with 204 hp as a 2.0-liter engine and electric motor. The front-wheel drive CR-V with its turbocharged 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine gets an EPA rating of 28 mpg city and 34 mpg highway, although the more gasoline-powered Eco V CR-V is a sport-hybrid at front wheel drive car. It achieves 43 mpg city and 36 mpg highway. We haven't yet explored a non-hybrid CR-V, though, and when we drove the all-wheel-drive Sport Touring Hybrid on real-world 75-mph gasoline roads, it scored 31 mpg. Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The CR-V's gorgeous interior is accentuated by textured honeycomb inserts that cover the top of the dash and hide the air vents. Surrounding the steering wheel is a partial virtual instrument cluster with an analogue speedometer and a 7.0-inch display that lets you switch between unique information menus. Honda says the front seats are designed to reduce fatigue on long journeys, and the usability of the new CR-V has been improved. Between the front passengers is a large center console box, and behind are reclining rear seats which give rear passengers 0.6 inches more legroom than the previous CR-V. There is 36 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second row, 39 cubic feet in the most comfortable gas-powered model with an adjustable cargo area in the lowest position

Infotainment and Connectivity

The CR-V's infotainment unit is controlled via a 7.0-inch touchscreen on EKS and Sport models. This option includes physical volume and controls, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. EX-L and Sport Touring models have a 9.0-inch Wi-Fi touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. While there's no control knob on the big screen, there is a volume control to accompany the onboard navigation, as well as a USB-C port for rear-seat passengers and mobile phone charging. Those who need a 12-speaker Bose sound package should opt for the unique CR-V Sport Touring
